Jorge es actualmente Investigador Asociado por la Universidad de O’Higgins (Rancagua, Chile). Su investigación está enfocada en la volcanología física, tefroestratigrafía, petrología y geoquímica de productos volcánicos y deslizamientos de volcanes (colapsos sectoriales). Ha trabajado sistemáticamente en el volcán Calbuco, estudiando la erupción del 2015 y sus impactos, además de las erupciones históricas y la evolución del edificio volcánico (actualidad).
